Under the Direction of the Data Visualization Lead or designee, the Tableau Developer works to ensure stability, scalability, delivery and presentation of valuable BI and Analytics solutions for our business partners. This individual must identify problems from a business perspective and map, implement, and explain pragmatic solutions. Excellent analytical, technical and communication skills to enable work within an interdisciplinary team focused on excellent customer experience are essential. This is a full time, salaried position, with salary commensurate with education, experience, and contribution.

Duties & Responsibilities:

● Assist in the planning, delivering, and presentation of Business Intelligence implementation projects in the healthcare/health insurance arena

● Develop, revise, modify, and maintain complex information dashboards, reports and visualizations using Tableau software

● Prepare and present design and core reporting concepts, and make recommendations both internally within BST and externally to our clients

● Identify and translate business needs and requirements into customized design and implementation of intuitive information dashboards, reports, and visualizations that are optimized for performance and use best practices

● Create project reports, documentation, and deliverables

● Document systems through object models, data definitions, and naming conventions

● Assist in defining and implementing business intelligence management procedures

● Apply design patterns to develop BI solutions for delivery on web and mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones

● Create business intelligence and data warehouse design patterns, designs, standards, and templates

● Explain, show, and train internally and externally in the use and navigation of dashboards and reports

● Manage own assignments including planning, strategizing, controlling quality, scheduling, and communicating with BST staff and clients

● Perform other responsibilities as needed by client projects

● Must pass initial and periodic background checks, and comply with all applicable HIPAA and Security regulations, including maintaining HIPAA Awareness Certification

● Must be available and able to work during standard business hours in the Benefits Science office in Boston, MA, as well as at other times as needed for communication and coordination with our international teams

● This position may require travel

Qualifications:

● BS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience

● Minimum 2 yrs work experience with Tableau software version 10.0.1 or above (certification strongly preferred; must be able to demonstrate proficiency)

● Demonstrated experience with extract,transform,load tools

● Demonstrated ability designing, building, maintaining, and deploying complex reporting dashboards in Tableau, and creating complex data warehouse/business intelligence solutions using Tableau

● Experience integrating Tableau into another application or native platforms is a plus

● Demonstrated knowledge of best practices and experience optimizing Tableau for performance, as well as experience reverse engineering and revising Tableau Workbooks created by other developers

● Experience performing basic administration tasks in Tableau Server for a production environment preferred

● Expertise in Data Visualization including effective communication, appropriate chart types, and best practices

● Must have excellent presentation and explanation skills (2-3 years of experience strongly preferred), with demonstrated experience helping others learn and understand

● Understand basic statistical routines (mean, percentiles, significance, correlations) with ability to apply in data analysis

● Understanding of design, development and deployment of business intelligence systems and large-scale data warehouses, using business intelligence tools and commercial database platforms (experience with tools such as AWS, Python, R, JavaScript, Spark or similar preferred)

● Strong preference for someone with experience working with healthcare or health insurance-related data, particularly for self-insured plans

● Must present a neat and professional appearance

● Must be a self starter with good time management skills, able to follow assignments through to completion while paying particular attention to quality and timeliness

● Ability to turn ideas into creative and statistically sound decision support solutions while working effectively independently or as part of a team

● Fluent in English (both verbal and written), with strong interpersonal and communication skills
